I recorded these Belize Howler Monkeys at Cotton Tree Lodge. You can hear them every night…if you didn’t know what they were and you were camping in the jungle, I imagine it could be very scary.
Belize Howler Monkeys
Put your ear buds in or turn your speakers up so you get the full affect. Sometimes it sounds as if a dog were barking. Apparently you can see them during the day if you are in the jungle…I’ve never seen a Howler Monkey, I’ve only heard them at night!
Cotton Tree Lodge, Namesake
Cotton Tree Lodge is named after the HUGE Cotten Tree in this photo that watches over the lodge. This is a HUGE tree.
The place, like this tree, is beautiful, if you need a place to go and do nothing, this is a good place. If you want a place to learn about the culture of the Indigenous people of Southern Belize, this is it. So many things to see like Lubaantun, Mayan ruins, one of the first to make rounded corners on their structures.
This is one of my favorite photos…unfortunately, I forget the little guys name. I have quite a few photos of him and the dog, whose name I also forget. đ I was there around 2006. There’s a couple Cacao Tree saplings that I adopted, that maybe are producing Cacao, that can then be used to make chocolate.
Cotton Tree Lodge is definitely worth a visit, it’s a great place to get in touch with nature. He was old when I took these shots, I doubt he’s still in this incarnation. The dog, his buddy is equally as beautiful. What great life they had…nothing to do but sleep, eat, sleep some more, play, sleep…sounds perfect for me.
I believe the dog’s name was Buddy, he may not be around either. Two mellow animals. I think that’s why they were there, to teach people the Art of Mellow!
The energy there was very noticeable, the sky at night was incredible…absolutely no light pollution. This would be the perfect place to do a CE5!
There are a lot of Eco-Lodges in Belize, in Mexico and Central America in general. Cotton Tree Lodge is the only one I’ve been to. I’ve been there twice. I’d like to explore the entire country of Belize.
Cotton Tree Lodge is Located in Southern Belize and is very close to Punta Gorda, here it is on Google Maps.
If you go, be sure to bring a camera and your charger…one of those solar chargers would be perfect, so if you’re out on one of the excursions, you won’t have to worry about your camera or phone going dead, because you’ll be plugged into Gaia and our Star.
When I said “if you didn’t know what they were and you were camping in the jungle, I imagine it could be very scary.” There is a jungle cabana, literally in the jungle…the whole place is in the jungle, but the back porch of the jungle cabana looks into the jungle. Apparently you can see the Howler Monkeys during the day from the Jungle Cabana and you will definitely hear them at night, they may sound as if they are in the cabana with you. I’m very glad I recorded the Belize Howler Monkeys.
When you’re watching the dark screen of the Howler Monkey recording, you’ll hear the door to mt balcony slamming, but also you’ll see in the lower right corner a little light that blinks a couple times…I have no idea what it was, I just noticed it now, about 14 years later.
I think I was visited by a couple small orbs. Cotton Tree Lodge would be the perfect place to do a CE5…I wish I knew about CE5’s when I was there.
I got a video of a 4 orbs in Mexico…I took the video with a little Blackberry that I had…the video has an explanation
I posted all my photos from Cotton Tree Lodge, Belize on this page.
Enjoy!
Peace, Love & Blessings
